I've been using an X220 with 2 external displays, both Dell 24"
1920x1200, one connected by DP and one by VGA.
Now I'm using the X1 Yoga more and want 2 external displays. I guess I
can just connect an HDMI-HDMI cable to the one monitor. But the other
is problematic. It's older so it only does DVI (and D-Sub, S-Video,
Composite, and Component!). The only way I can think to hook it up is
by USB-C to DVI, either one cable or an adapter. But most of the
cheaper devices I see only offer up to 1080p resolution. It would be
nice if 1200p were "close enough" (or weird enough they don't mention
it) but I guess to be safe I need something that supports it.
Can anyone suggest a cheap solution? Has to ship from US or Canada,
I'd prefer not to wait 6 weeks from China.
Also, this will leave my X1 Yoga with no open USB-C ports. I see some
devices labelled as "mini docks" or whatever, that are USB-C to (HDMI
+ USB 3.0 + USB C for charging + sometimes a real Ethernet port). Is
that worth investing in, and does it work? I've already got 3 (?) USB
3.0 ports, and just charging my new USB C mobile phone is not a big
deal.
I'm sure I'll have lots of use for USB C in future, but right now the
only uses are to hook up a second monitor and to charge my phone. :)
Thanks!
